CA PLUS Cyanoacrylate Adhesives cure (polymerize) best when pressed into a thin film in the presence on an alkali surface. Normal ambient humidity in the air and on the parts provide the proper pH to initiate curing in a few seconds. The best bond strengths occur when relative humidity is between 40-60% at 72°F. If the surfaces to be bonded are excessively dry or are acidic, the curing can be much slower. In these circumstances, the use of an accelerator is necessary. Generally the thinner the bond line, the faster and stronger the bond.
CA PLUS Cyanoacrylate adhesives are not toxic. The fumes from Cyanoacrylate adhesives can vaporize and do irritate sensitive membranes like eyes, nose and throat. When these fumes come in contact with moist surfaces they are immediately polymerized and become inert. They do not penetrate into human tissue. Some Cyanoacrylates are used in place of sutures and the cured adhesive usually falls off in a matter of days. There are many applications where Cyanoacrylates have been used to graft skin, bond bone and cartilage, repair eye tissue, close blood vessels and stop spinal fluid leaks. Cyanoacrylate fumes are also used by police and investigative departments around the world to locate and identify fingerprints. A small percentage of the population can become sensitized to Cyanoacrylates/fumes after repeated exposure (like cat hair or anything else). These sensitized people can develop flu-like symptoms but removing them from the exposure will eliminate the symptoms. Cyanoacrylates or their fumes are not carcinogenic and Cyanoacrylates are not made from cyanide.
Cyanoacrylates are best stored in their original container in a cold, dark, and dry location. For long term storage, Cyanoacrylates should be refrigerated or stored at temperatures below 50°F. The shelf life of Cyanoacrylates stored at room temperatures can be up to one year. If refrigerated, Cyanoacrylates can remain within specifications for up to two years. As Cyanoacrylates age, they polymerize, become thicker, and cure slower. They can be thinned down with the same type of chemical Cyanoacrylate of a lower viscosity.
There is no “one” perfect adhesive that works best on all materials for all situations. CA PLUS offers 10 different families of Cyanoacrylates for various types of bond requirements. CA PLUS Cyanoacrylates are used for the following reasons: fast cure, single component, high tensile/shear strength, able to bond similar and dissimilar materials, easy to dispense, low per unit cost, and various other factors. There are 10 families of Adhesives with benefits for different types of applications. Read their descriptions on the Cyanoacrylates product page.
CA PLUS has over 30 years of experience in working with Cyanoacrylates. Currently CA PLUS is a repackager and blender of Cyanoacrylates. Our major manufacturing sources for the base monomer are in the US, England and Japan. CA PLUS offers adhesive consulting services for production applications and customize products and packaging ranging from .5 gram tubes to 44 pound production carboys. Based on our years of experience, we can specify and deliver the least expensive, correct product for production applications.
The white residue is cured volatized Cyanoacrylate that settles back down on the part. This is especially true when using standard Ethyl Cyanoacrylates. CA PLUS offers 2 families of Cyanoacrylates that will reduce or eliminate this problem: Low Odor/Low Bloom and No Odor/No Bloom Cyanoacrylates. This whitening has no effect on the bond strength and using an acetone or CA PLUS Debonder wipe will get rid of the residue.
The biggest reason is overhead. CA PLUS Adhesives has kept its overhead very low in order to offer lower cost Cyanoacrylates to the Industrial Market. Being in the Cyanoacrylate business for over 30 years has allowed CA PLUS to offer quality industrial Cyanoacrylates to its industrial customer at the lowest prices. CA PLUS does not have a “White Castle” office in an expensive real estate area. We offer quality products (some ISO 9001: 2000 and ISO 9002) without all the fanfare of expensive advertising and public relations.
Because CA PLUS is not limited to one production facility, it can supply worldwide requirements from three manufacturing facilities in the USA, England, and Japan. CA PLUS Adhesives can produce over 500 tons of Cyanoacrylate annually. For major applications, product can be shipped directly (air if necessary) to the production facility. CA PLUS Adhesives is organized to provide service to it’s customers as required.
There are perhaps thousands of applications where Cyanoacrylates are used to save manufacturing time and money. Here is a short list: Automotive trim, ganging batteries, bottle caps, bow/arrow vanes, cell phone covers, printed circuit board application, cosmetic cases, dental applications, disposable medical products, fishing lures, furniture repair, guitars, hearing aids, honing stones, jewelry, lamp shades, finger print identification, loud speakers, luggage, mortuary applications, oil filters, o-rings, RC planes/cars, rubber mats, security packaging, shoe repair, silk screens, steering wheels, toys, transformers, weather stripping, etc.,.
Even though Cyanoacrylates are our specialty, CA PLUS Adhesives, Inc. offers Adhesives and Sealants in the following technologies: Anaerobics, methacrylates, UV adhesives, epoxies, silicones, ceramic adhesives, anti-seize, dispensing aids and equipment, solvents, cleaners, and Debonders.
